Bridging from Step 5 to Step 6 – Finishing with Integrity, Moving into Willingness

12-Steps with Jesus - Guide (Step 5)

Step 5: “Admitted to God, ourselves, and another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.”

Devotion: Finishing with Integrity, Moving into Willingness

Step 5 is where honesty becomes integrity.

We have brought our truth before Jesus and shared it with another person. We are no longer hiding. What was once kept in darkness has now been spoken in the light.

But Step 5 is not the finish line — it is a turning point.

With this new awareness of ourselves, we begin to see more clearly where we need Jesus to change us. This is where Step 6 begins — a willingness to let Him do that work.

The Apostle Paul said, “I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” Finishing well requires more than effort. It requires staying close to Jesus through every step.

Many in the 12-step programs and the Bible started strong but did not finish well. Why? Because finishing requires ongoing surrender, not just a single decision.

As we complete Step 5, we are invited to finish this step fully — not rushing past it — so that we can move forward with hearts ready and willing to grow in the likeness of Christ.

Integrity prepares the way. Willingness moves us forward.

 Bible Example:

The Apostle Paul the Apostle endured hardship, failure, and growth throughout his journey. Yet he remained faithful to Christ, finishing his race with integrity.

His strength was not in himself, but in his dependence on Jesus.

Reflection Questions:

1. Have I completed Step 5 honestly and fully before Jesus and another person?

2. What has Jesus revealed about me that He is now inviting me to surrender?

3. Am I willing to let Him begin changing these areas in my life?

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank You for bringing me through this step with honesty and grace. You have shown me the truth about myself, and I trust You with it. Help me finish this step well and prepare my heart to become willing for the changes You desire. Keep my eyes fixed on You, and strengthen me to walk forward in faith. Amen.

Action Step:

Take time to prayerfully reflect on your Step 5 experience.
Thank Jesus for the honesty and freedom He has begun in you. Ask Him to prepare your heart for Step 6, remembering:

Integrity opens the door — willingness walks you through it.

Bible Scripture to consider

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
