Step 5 — Walking in Freedom (4 of 4 part series)

12-Steps with Jesus - Guide (Step 5)

Step 5: “Admitted to God, ourselves, and another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.”

Devotion: Grace and Restoration

Step 5 leads us into freedom.

After confession, many experience a deep sense of relief. The burden of secrecy is lifted, and we begin to see more clearly the chain of our sins being broken and the forgiveness we have in Christ.

Jesus did not come to condemn but to restore. Through His sacrifice, we are forgiven and invited into new life.

Step 5 reminds us that our failures do not define us. In Christ, confession becomes the doorway to transformation.

 Bible Example:

After his restoration, Peter went on to preach boldly about Jesus (Acts 2). His failure did not end his story; God used it to strengthen his faith and ministry.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Do I truly believe God has forgiven me?

2. What would walking forward in the freedom Christ offers look like?

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank You for Your mercy and forgiveness. Help me walk forward in the freedom and new life You have given me. Amen.

Action Step:

After completing Step 5, spend time thanking Jesus for His forgiveness and grace. Praise the Father for His Goodness and mercy, as well as the Holy Spirit for being our helper, as we walk in faith with one another.

Remember: Confession before Christ and one another leads to freedom, healing, and belonging in Christ.

Bible Scripture to consider

Romans 8:1 – “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus”.

James 5:16 – Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed.
