Step 9: – Love Takes the First Step (Week 2 of 4)

12-Steps with Jesus - Guide (Step 9)

Step 9: “ Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.”

Devotion:

Making amends requires honesty wrapped in love.

Our goal is not to explain ourselves or convince someone to forgive us.

Our goal is to humbly acknowledge the harm we caused and leave the results with Jesus.

Sometimes people will respond with grace.

Sometimes they will need time.

Sometimes they may never be ready.

Our responsibility is faithfulness—not controlling the outcome.

Jesus calls us to obedience, not success.

Biblical Example:

After denying Jesus three times, Peter was lovingly restored by Christ (John 21). Jesus spoke truth, offered grace, and entrusted Peter with renewed purpose.

Truth and love always belong together.

Reflection Questions

1. Am I willing to speak honestly without defending myself?

2. Can I trust Jesus with the outcome?

 Action Step:

Continue praying for each person on your list.

If Jesus gives you peace, begin preparing for your first amends with humility and prayer.

Remember: Our responsibility is obedience. The results belong to God.

Prayer:

Lord, Jesus, let my words reflect Your truth and Your love. Help me leave every outcome safely in Your hands. Amen.
