Step 7 – Humility

12 Steps with Jesus

“Humbly asked Him (Jesus) to remove our shortcomings.”

We have emphasized willingness as being indispensable and are now ready to let God remove from us all the things which we have admitted are keeping us separated from God. If we still cling to something we will not let go, we ask God to help us be willing.

When ready, we say something like this:

7th Step Prayer

“My Creator, I am now willing that you should have all of me, good and bad. I pray that you now remove from me every single defect of character which stands in the way of my usefulness to you and my fellows. Grant me strength, as I go out from here, to do your bidding. Amen.”

We have then completed Step Seven.

  • Have I thought well before taking this step making sure that I am ready; that I can at last abandon myself utterly to Him?
  • Am I willing to take this step openly with another human being in the presence of the Lord? If not, why?
  • Take this step on your knees with a recovery partner. Share with the group.

Bible scriptures regarding “Humility”.

He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way. Psalm 25:9

For the LORD takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with victory. Psalm 149:4

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians           12: 9-10
