“Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God”.
The principle behind Step Three is Faith, as we continue to trust in Jesus and each other to help us recover, we begin to grow in the Spirit. We became less and less interested in ourselves, our little plans and designs. “More and more we became interested in seeing what we could contribute to life. As we felt new power flow in, as we enjoyed peace of mind, as we discovered we could face life successfully, as we became conscious of His presence, we began to lose our fear of today, tomorrow or the hereafter.”
“We were now at Step Three. Many of us said to our Maker, … ‘God, I offer myself to Thee-to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will. Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life. May I do Thy will always!’
- Have I thought well before taking this step making sure that I am ready; that I can at last abandon myself utterly to Him?
- Am I willing to take this step openly with another human being in the presence of the Lord? If not, why?
- Take this step on your knees with a recovery partner*. Share with the group.
*Recovery partner:
- During the next twelve weeks, work with a recovery partner to review the weekly step assignments. Based on your personal experience, answer any questions you both may have about recovery. A recovery partner is a person whom you can trust and see the potential of building a Christ-like relationship with.
- Your time commitment to each other is approximately twelve weeks.
- Attend the weekly “12 Steps of Recovery with Jesus” meetings.
- Offer to help each other with his or her inventories.
- Share a prayer with each other each time you meet so you both can see how two-way prayer is working in your lives.
