Step 2 – Hope

12 Steps with Jesus

“We came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.”

The principle behind Step Two is Hope and when we take a closer look at this step it just asks us to start small, if necessary. All we need to have is faith the size of a mustard seed to help us start the process of being set free of sin and our addictions.

If your faith is still a seed–dormant or growing–try meditating on the following questions:

  • Am I willing to believe that there is a Power greater than myself?
  • What Powers have I experiencendn that are greater than myself?
  • In what ways have I used people, places, and things in the place of Jesus to help me cope or deal with situations I face in this life?
  • Am I open to believing God is the greatest Power of all and that He has the ability to free me of the bondage and power of sin, my addictions, and my defects of character? If so, why? If not, why?

Bible verses to consider:

  • “You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word.” Psalm 119:114
  • “…but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31
  • “… Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20
