Step 8: “Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.”
Devotion:
The second part of Step 8 is just as important as the first: “…became willing…”
Willingness is often where healing begins.
Some names on our list may be easy. Others may stir fear, regret, embarrassment, or pain. Some people may not even know they were harmed, while others may carry deep wounds.
Jesus does not ask us to force ourselves into action before our hearts are ready. He asks us to become willing.
Willingness is simply saying, “Lord, if this is Your will, help me desire what You desire.”
It is another act of surrender.
Biblical Example:
Jonah resisted God’s call to Nineveh because his heart was unwilling. God patiently worked on Jonah before working through Jonah.
God often prepares the messenger before sending the message.
Reflection Questions:
- Which names on my list create resistance in my heart?
2. What fears am I holding onto that Jesus wants me to surrender?
Action Step:
Pray over each name on your Step 8 list.
Ask Jesus to soften your heart and increase your willingness to follow wherever He leads.
Remember: God often changes our hearts before He changes our circumstances.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, where my heart resists, fill it with Your love. Give me the willingness to follow You even when the path feels difficult. Amen.
