Surrender, Service, Compassion

Scripture:

“Now Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, performed great wonders and signs among the people.” Acts 6:8 NIV

“While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60 Then he fell on his knees and cried out, ‘Lord, do not hold this sin against them.’ When he had said this, he fell asleep. Acts 7:59-60 NIV

Faith Journey:

Stephen exemplified a life lived in full surrender to the Holy Spirit, radiating God’s power and love through his actions. Let’s delve into his story with reflection in mind:

Stephen’s ministry was marked by miraculous deeds and compassionate service, particularly to the marginalized like widows. How did his commitment to serving others reflect his deep connection with God?

Despite facing opposition and ultimately martyrdom, Stephen fearlessly proclaimed the gospel, standing firm in his faith. How did his boldness inspire others, even in the face of persecution?

In the midst of his trial, Stephen recounted the history of God’s people, highlighting their resistance to God’s message throughout the ages. How did his words challenge the religious leaders of his time, and what lessons can we draw from his courage in speaking truth to power?

Stephen’s response to his persecutors was one of forgiveness and grace, echoing Jesus’ own words on the cross. How does his example challenge us to let go of grudges and trust in God’s sovereignty even in the darkest moments of life?

Stephen’s intimate knowledge of God, coupled with his trust in Him, enabled him to transcend his circumstances with joy and peace. How can we cultivate a deeper relationship with God to experience similar resilience and hope in our own lives?

His life teaches us that true service and compassion flow from a heart surrendered to God. How can we emulate Stephen’s example of selfless devotion to others, especially those in need?

In conclusion, Stephen’s unwavering faith and sacrificial love serve as a beacon of inspiration for believers throughout the ages. Through reflection on his life, we’re challenged to deepen our relationship with God, embrace forgiveness, and serve others with joy and compassion.
