Step 5 — Sharing with Another Person (3 of 4 part series)

12-Steps with Jesus - Guide (Step 5)

Step 5: “Admitted to God, ourselves, and another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.”

Devotion: Humility and Fellowship

Step 5 includes confessing our wrongs not only to Jesus but also to another human being.

This step may feel intimidating, yet it is deeply freeing. When we share honestly with a trusted believer, secrecy and shame lose their power. We experience the grace of Christ through the listening ear and prayer of another person.

God designed the Christian life to be lived in fellowship. Step 5 reminds us that healing often comes through honest relationships within the body of Christ.

 Bible Example:

Jesus restored Peter in a personal conversation before the others by the sea (John 21). His honesty in that moment opened the door for renewed purpose.

Reflection Questions:

1. Who is a trusted believer with whom I can share my Step 5?

2. What fears do I need to surrender to Jesus before doing this?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, give me humility and courage to share honestly with the person You provide. Let Your grace bring healing through this step. This I ask in Jesus’ name. Amen

Action Step:

Prayerfully identify the person you will share your Step 5 with and ask the Lord to guide that conversation.

Remember: God often uses another believer to help us experience His grace.

Bible Scripture to consider

James 5:16 – “Confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed.”
