Step 5 (Integrity) — Admitting the Exact Nature (2 of 4 part series)

12-Steps with Jesus - Guide (Step 5)

Step 5: “Admitted to God, ourselves, and another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.”

Devotion: Truthful Self-Examination

Step 5 calls us to admit the exact nature of our wrongs.

This means we go beyond simply naming actions. We acknowledge what was truly happening within us at the time—our attitudes, motives, and choices.

This is not about condemning ourselves. It is about telling the truth before Jesus. When we stop excusing or minimizing our wrongs, we open the door for Christ to change us.

Jesus always deals with the heart because that is where true transformation begins.

 Bible Example:

After Peter denied Jesus three times, the Lord later asked him, “Do you love Me?” (John 21). Jesus addressed Peter’s heart and restored him to his calling.

Reflection Questions:

1. What attitudes or motives were present behind the actions in my inventory?

2. Am I willing to acknowledge these honestly before Jesus?

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, search my heart and help me speak the truth about myself with humility and trust in Your grace. Amen.

Action Step:

Review your inventory prayerfully and acknowledge before Jesus the truth about your actions and attitudes

Bible Scripture to consider

Psalm 139:23–24 – “Search me, O God, and know my heart… see if there is any offensive way in me.“
