“Came to believe in a Power Greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity”.
The Principle behind Step Two is Hope. Trust and Hope are deeply intertwined—trust is the foundation that makes hope possible. When we trust in God’s character and promises, we can hope for healing, transformation, and a future beyond our struggles. But this trust isn’t just in any abstract idea of God—it’s in Jesus, who showed us that God is faithful, loving, and present.
Reflection:
Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is just show up—especially when you feel broken, ashamed, or defeated. That’s what Step 2 starts with: coming to God with nothing but our need. And that’s enough. God doesn’t ask for perfection. He asks for honesty. When you show up in your weakness, you give Him space to work.
Jesus invites you today to come—not with your success, but with your surrender.
Bible Example:
The Woman with the Issue of Blood (Mark 5:25–34)
She had nothing left—no money, no strength, no solutions. For twelve long years she suffered, tried everything, and only grew worse. But in her desperation, she did the bravest thing she could: she showed up. She came to Jesus with empty hands and a hurting heart, believing He was her only hope. And Jesus didn’t turn her away. He honored her faith, healed her, and called her “daughter.”
Her story reminds us that hope begins when we simply come to Jesus—just as we are, with nothing to offer but our need.
Reflection Questions:
1. What fear or brokenness do I need to bring honestly before Jesus today?
2. Where have I been trying to fix things on my own instead of simply coming to Him?
3. What would it look like for me to show up before God with humility and surrender rather than perfection?
Prayer:
My Lord, Jesus, I’m here. I don’t have it all together, but I’m coming to You just as I am. I give You my brokenness, my fear, and my past. Please meet me in this place. Help me to surrender fully. Grow inside me a hope that You can and will restore me. Thank you.
Bible Scripture to consider:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28
