“Came to believe in a Power Greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity”.
The Principle behind Step Two is Hope. Hope is the spark that begins healing. But it’s not enough to have hope in “something”—our hope must be in someone, and that someone is Jesus Christ. He is the source of our salvation, healing, and restoration. And He didn’t leave us to figure life out on our own—He gave us the Holy Spirit, His very presence, to live within us and empower us every step of the way.
Reflection:
Life on life’s terms is often unfair, overwhelming, and filled with pain. Many of us have learned to cope by staying in control, isolating, or numbing ourselves. But Step Two invites us to believe that there is a Power greater than ourselveswho can restore what’s broken—not just outwardly, but within.
That Power is Jesus, and the way He brings His power into our daily lives is through the Holy Spirit.
We don’t need to have perfect faith—just a mustard seed of hope that Jesus is who He says He is, and that He gave us the Holy Spirit to bring real help, real strength, and real transformation.
Key Insight: Jesus Is the Source; the Holy Spirit Is the Power Within
- Jesus Christ conquered sin, death, and shame. He is the source of our hope, and through His life, death, and resurrection, we are offered new life.
- The Holy Spirit is the gift Jesus gave us—the presence of God living inside us—empowering us to believe, to heal, and to change.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses…”
—Acts 1:8
This isn’t about willing ourselves into recovery or wholeness—it’s about letting the Holy Spirit fill us with power, peace, and purpose that we never had on our own.
Honest Questions:
- What part of my life feels most out of control right now?
- Where have I placed my hope before—and how has that worked out?
- Am I willing to believe that Jesus has the power to restore me?
- What would it look like to trust the Holy Spirit to help me face life on life’s terms—starting today?
Prayer:
Jesus, You are the One I place my hope in. I believe You are the source of everything I need to be restored. I don’t want to rely on my own strength anymore—I’ve tried, and I’ve failed. Today, I open my heart to the power of the Holy Spirit You gave me. Come, Holy Spirit, fill me with the power to believe, to surrender, and to change. Help me to trust even when I’m scared, and to hope even when I feel hopeless. I’m done doing life on my own terms. I want to live on Yours. Amen
