Scripture Reading

“For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things.” Philippians 3:18-19

Thought For the Day

Paul’s words carry a profound message about the danger of allowing worldly pursuits to become the focal point of our lives. He emphasizes the sorrow he feels for those who have chosen a path contrary to the teachings of Christ. The imagery of their “god” being their belly speaks to the all-consuming nature of earthly desires – a stark contrast to the self-denial and spiritual focus advocated by Jesus.

Meditation for the Day

As Christ-followers, we are called to a higher standard. The pursuit of material wealth, worldly acclaim, or indulgence in sinful pleasures can lead to spiritual decay and separation from the true essence of a life in Christ. Paul’s tears convey the urgency of his message, imploring us to guard against the allure of temporary, earthly pleasures that ultimately lead to destruction. In my daily walk am I vigilent examining my motives and desires?

Prayer for the day

Heavenly FATHER, in my daily walk help me to be vigilant. Search my heart. Examine my motives and desires. Set my mind heavenly things, allowing the concerns of this world to not distract us from the following JESUS. This I pray in JESUS’ name. Amen.
