Step 3 (Faith) “Letting Go, Leaning In”

12-Steps with Jesus - Guide (Step 3)

“Made a Decision to Turn Our Will and Our Lives Over to Care of God”.

Devotional: The Courage to Let Go

Letting go is one of the hardest things we’ll ever do—especially when we’ve spent a lifetime trying to control outcomes, protect ourselves, or fix our own messes. But Step 3 begins with a decision: We made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God.

We may not know exactly how everything will work out—but we’re choosing to trust the One who does. This is the first true act of surrender. Not because we have it all together, but because we’ve come to believe that God is both willing and able to care for us.

Faith doesn’t start with certainty—it starts with a decision—A decision in the face of uncertainty.

Bible Example:

Peter Leaves His Nets – Luke 5:1–11

Jesus calls Peter, a tired fisherman, to drop his nets and follow Him. “So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.” – Luke 5:11

Like us, Peter didn’t know where following Jesus would lead. But he made a decision. That decision changed everything.

Reflection Questions:

1. What have I been trying to control that I need to release to God today?

2. What would it look like to fully trust Him with my life, one decision at a time?

Prayer:

God, I’ve tried to run things on my own, and I’ve worn myself out. I need You. Today, I make the decision to trust You with my life. I give You my will, my plans, and my fears. Teach me to let go and follow You. I know I won’t do it perfectly, but I’m willing. Thank You for Your care. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Bible Scripture to consider:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” – Proverbs 3:5–6

“Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.” – Psalm 37:5 (NLT)
