Devotion: God Sees and Loves the Real You
In our efforts to survive, fit in, or avoid shame, we often wear masks—pretending to be fine, to be strong, to be someone we’re not. But God doesn’t want a performance. He wants the real us. Step 1 calls us to honesty, and that means taking off the masks we hide behind and letting God see us as we truly are—hurting, flawed, and in need.
The truth is: He already sees it all. And still, He loves us completely. When we stop hiding and show up as we are, we invite God into the places that most need His healing. That’s where real transformation begins.
Bible Example:
The Woman at the Well (John 4:1–26) The Samaritan woman had a past she likely wanted to
keep hidden—five husbands, and currently living with a man who wasn’t her husband. She came to draw water at noon, avoiding others. But Jesus met her there. He saw straight through her story and didn’t turn away. Instead, He spoke to her with love, dignity, and truth. She didn’t need to pretend—He already knew. And His love brought her healing and purpose.
“He told me everything I ever did… Could this be the Messiah?” (v. 29)
Reflection Questions:
- What are some masks I wear to hide my struggles or protect myself from rejection?
- What would it look like to believe that God sees me fully—and still loves me completely?
- What would it look like today to be completely honest—with myself, with God, and with someone I trust?
Closing Thought:
God isn’t drawn to your performance—He’s drawn to your heart. When you remove the mask and come honestly before Him, you’ll discover that His love is not based on appearances, but on who you truly are. And who you truly are… is deeply loved
Closing Prayer:
Father, I’ve spent so much time pretending—trying to look strong, feel worthy, and hide my pain. But You already see everything. And still, You love me. Help me take off the mask today. Help me be honest—with myself, with You, and with those around me. Thank You for meeting me in truth and not turning away. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Bible Verses:
Hebrews 4:13 (NLT) – “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.”
Jeremiah 31:3 (NIV) – “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.”
